Dr Gideon Caplan is Director of Geriatric Medicine and Post-Acute Care Services at Prince of Wales Hospital, and he is a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
His research interests have focused on health services research as principal investigator on seven investigator-initiated RCTs, and on the pathophysiology of delirium, where he has been investigating the metabolic basis for delirium.
Dr. Caplan has been President of the Australasian Delirium Association for 12 years. He has served as a consultant to Commonwealth and State Health Departments including the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council, and worked with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care to draft Delirium Clinical Care Standards, which are now a requirement for all hospitals in Australia.
