NIDUS Publishes New White Paper to Advance Delirium Treatment Trials

Critical Care Medicine, a peer-reviewed journal of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, recently published the article Advancing Delirium Treatment Trials in Older Adults: Recommendations for Future Trials From the Network for Investigation of Delirium: Unifying Scientists (NIDUS). The article covers a thorough review of English-language RCTs on delirium treatment.

A new article in Critical Care Medicine has NIDUS recommendations for future trials. As outlined in the article, three NIDUS PIs led a 39-member interprofessional, multidisciplinary team of both clinicians and nonclinicians. After reviewing the published evidence on delirium treatments, the group identified a number of treatment gaps.

In addition, the group identified eight unique challenges in delirium research and made recommendations to address each area. Specifically, the article highlighted innovative approaches for future research. Finally, the group offered recommendations to help guide future delirium treatment trials in older adults.

John Devlin, PharmD, co-leader of the NIDUS Dissemination and Communication Core, is first author on the paper. Other NIDUS PIs who worked on the project include Dr. Fritz Sieber (Pilot Core), Dr. Ed Marcantonio (Research Core), Dr. Rich Jones (Measurement and Harmonization Core), Dr. Tom Travison (Measurement and Harmonization Core), Dr. Jan Busby-Whitehead (Dissemination and Communication Core), and NIDUS multi-PI Dr. Sharon Inouye.
