Kelly Atkins, PhD

Dr. Kelly Atkins is a Clinical Neuropsychologist from Melbourne Australia. She graduated from Monash University in 2021 with a doctorate in Clinical Neuropsychology and completed her registrar training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, followed by an Australian-American Fulbright Fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York.

In 2023, Dr Atkins received a NIDUS pre-pilot award to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of a wearable polysomnography device that includes frontal electroencephalography (EEG) in the perioperative setting. This study is currently underway at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, in conjunction with the University of Melbourne and will recruit 30 older adults undergoing elective surgery.

Dr. Atkins plans to expand the use of these devices to investigate the relationship between perioperative sleep disturbance and the incidence of delirium in older adults, with the ultimate aim of informing hospital policy that promotes sleep health and delirium prevention strategies.
